During the country’s most recent crises, heroes and leaders have emerged:
- ’92 So. CA Riots – Community leaders
- 9/11 – Police, first responders, fire fighters
- Hurricanes – Relief organizations
- Active shooters – Families, teachers, communities
- Financial crisis – Sadly, not sure if any leaders emerged there
Throughout this COVID-19 pandemic, the nurses and doctors are the clear heroes. *Happy Nurses Week!
It’s been inspirational to watch, learn from and applaud these amazing nurses and doctors. Their day-to-day heroics have been remarkable. History will underscore just how magnificent their efforts have been throughout this unthinkable storm. For the past four months, ReputationUs has been blessed to partner with the Oregon Center for Nursing during the COVID-19 episode. We have experienced a radical transformation of focus from raising awareness of the nursing workforce, to now an abundance of attention and gratitude toward this noble profession.
As it pertains to crisis response, we want to recognize the front-line health care providers (i.e., doctors and nurses) working selflessly to help their patients and communities. One of the most notable attributes that we are witnessing is that they’re not necessarily seeking attention. They’re just doing their job with courage, passion and humbleness. The spotlights have been coming to them naturally.
If you’re a business offering a service (e.g., law firm, bank, restaurant) or product (e.g., clothes, materials), we encourage you to take a closer look at how these heroes act during a crisis. While they are performing tremendous deeds and working tirelessly, they ARE NOT seeking recognition or money. They are focused on doing what is right and in the best interest of their patients or clients. They ARE NOT putting out advertising or billboards touting their efforts. They’re just doing.
So during this crisis marathon, refrain from publicizing all the wonderful things you’re doing (please stop say, “We’re all in this together.”). Rather roll-up your sleeves and courageously support your clients, customers, members and communities with passion…and seek no praise. Your reward is simply the ability to offer your talents and products in times of crisis.
Be like nurses! Be like doctors!
